I got my first Labrador Retriever, Holly, for Christmas when I was 18 years old. She was “my” dog and I loved her dearly. When it was time for me to leave home, it was a hard decision, but I knew Holly would be happier living with my parents in the home she grew up in. Eventually, the day came when it was necessary to let Holly go, but I still feel her with me. She had given me unconditional love and instilled in me the love for the breed. She was truly one of the best dogs ever.
As newlyweds, my husband Gene and I were busy working and saving for a home. The home came, and shortly afterwards, so did the children. When it was time to add a dog to our family, we rescued a couple of mixed breeds and volunteered as a puppy family for the Guide Dog Foundation. It wasn’t until 1996 that Mousse came into our lives a beautiful chocolate lab puppy. I quickly fell in love with him and he became my constant shadow. It is because of him that I am where I am today. I became more involved in Labradors and joined the Labrador Retriever Club of Long Island where I met people who had the same interests and love for
. It was there that I met Elly and Brian Hawkins of Jayhawk Labradors. They are my best friends and my mentors in becoming a breeder of quality Labrador Retrievers.
We live on an acre of land in Ridge,
-- hence our kennel name “Acreridge Labradors”. Our children are now grown and starting families of their own, but our home is still filled with love and our “fur” kids -- Rosie, Dora, Stella, Molly and Lola.
All of the dogs in our breeding program have the appropriate clearances through OFA, CERF and Optigen. We strive to breed healthy
with sweet temperaments. Our pups are raised with lots of love and attention; they leave here well-socialized and ready to embark on a new adventure in their forever homes.
